What to Expect

Most procedures are performed under local anaesthetic and take less than 30 minutes. Dr Patterson will explain the reason for surgery, walk you through the process, and discuss what aftercare will be required. Stitches are often removed within 7–10 days, and we provide detailed wound care instructions to support healing.

Do I need a referral for skin surgery?

No, you can book directly with Dr Clare Patterson. However, if you have a referral from your GP or another specialist, you may be eligible for a higher Medicare rebate on your consultation and treatment.

Will the procedure hurt?

All skin surgery procedures are performed under local anaesthetic to ensure you’re as comfortable as possible. You may feel a brief sting during the injection, but the procedure itself should be pain-free.

How long does skin surgery take?

Most procedures take between 15–30 minutes, depending on the size and location of the lesion. You’ll be given plenty of time for discussion before and after the procedure.

Will I need stitches?

Some procedures require stitches, while others don’t. Dr Patterson will explain what to expect based on the specific treatment and will provide detailed aftercare instructions.

Is there any downtime?

Most people can return to normal daily activities shortly after their procedure. However, depending on the area treated, you may be advised to limit certain movements or avoid strenuous activity for a few days.
